A car packed with explosives was crashed into a police vehicle on Paris’s famed Champs-Elysees in what authorities called a terrorist attack.
The driver who was also armed was killed in the crash but the car bomb failed to detonate.
Police said the attacker was known to French authorities and listed on the government’s dossier of people suspected of posing a threat to national security.
France has a history of deadly vehicle attacks: recently an Islamic terrorist plowed through crowds gathered to celebrate Bastille Day, the national holiday, on a seaside promenade in Nice, killing 86.
