President Trump on a trip to Israel has become the first sitting U.S. president to visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Trump was accompanied on a tour of the Wall by his family and was seen placing his hand on the Wall and pausing in reflection. The President then placed a note in the Western Wall as he visited one of Judaism’s holiest sites.
Trump later called it a “great honor” to visit the Wall, saying, “I can see a much deeper path, friendship with Israel.” Senior administration officials described the historic visit as part of Trump’s efforts to highlight the need for unity among three of the world’s great religions on his first foreign trip.
