The ancient great city Babylon is being remembered, adored, and celebrated again by the world. As the United Nations has voted to make Babylon a world heritage site, which gives more momentum to re-developing the old site of the city.
The vote of the UN World Heritage Committee meeting in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, made the ancient Babylonian city on the Euphrates River a world heritage site, in the area known as a cradle of civilization.
Which gave birth to this ancient first governing city and kingdom of mankind. For Babylon was the first world kingdom of man as the head of gold on the great image of a man in the Daniel chapter 2 prophecy.
Babylon was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that was home to the Ishtar Gate, Lion of Babylon, and Nebuchadnezzar’s Hanging Gardens. But it also had a reputation for opposing God as the place of the Tower of Babel.
And with this UN declaration along with other government and organization initiatives, ancient Babylon now has a world-wide focus on it again as a site where for nearly ten years now, millions of dollars have been spent in work done to redevelop the ancient site of Babylon.
One modern program has been called “The Future Of Babylon.” And the project has so far been funded by the World Monument Fund, Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, the U.S. State Department & Iraqi Embassy, and private foundations.
But now with the United Nations World Heritage designation, the effort to redevelop the city site is expected to attract even more funds from both governments and international investors.
Authorities there have already allocated $50 million to Babylon, and they are hoping the UN World Heritage listing will open the door to even more support.
To where the ancient ruins of Babylon are no longer a project of a war–torn nation like Iraq, but has become a world project which can come up with funds to re-develop the ancient city.
And now there is world-wide interest in this ancient area of Iraq, where the U.S. government built the most expensive U.S. Embassy in the world in Baghdad not far from Babylon; which is described as the largest of its kind in the world and entirely self-sufficient.
Now Iraqi officials are saying that the ancient city of Babylon will be a protected site and would be returned to its “rightful place” in history, which will allow for Babylon’s rediscovery with further exploration and research since only 18% of the ancient city has been excavated.
Babylon was founded by Nimrod in Genesis 10:9-10 and was located in Shinar, in ancient Mesopotamia on the bank of the Euphrates River.
But Nimrod was a rebel who as the first leader of the then known world was anti-God, opposing God’s righteous governing authority in the world.
And he decided in Genesis 11 to build themselves a city with a tower whose top is in the heavens so to make a name for themselves and to protect them like a fortress against the Lord God from scattering them across the earth.
And Nimrod with his world kingdom with one government, and one language with a common goal, they were doing it. Even to where the Lord came down to see the city and the tower and believed they would accomplish their “in-God’s-face” project.
Of course, the Lord God was displeased and ended their tower project with the judgment of the confusion of their languages with it becoming known as the tower of Babel. And humanity were dispersed across the world according to their languages.
Yet Nimrod had built the first kingdom of man, headquartered in Babylon, with his kingdom as the first world government of which he was the first world leader. And in doing so had also established the idolatrous religion of deifying humanity as god to be worshiped in defiance of the true living Lord God.
But Babylon is not only a Biblical city of the past, it will also be significant in world prophecy soon to come.
For just as the world is remembering and celebrating the memory of Babylon now as a world heritage, the Revelation prophecies (chapters 14, 16, 17, 18, and 19) foretell the world will also turn again to its Babylonian heritage.
Where they will again have a one world government with a one world order that will again deify and worship a world leader just as it did Nimrod in the Genesis. And this final world leader will also be anti-God as Nimrod was ruling in defiance of the Lord as the anti-Christ.
Only this time, it is in the Last Days of the end of this age as the last final world government of the Times of the Gentiles before the everlasting Kingdom of God is established through the Lord Jesus Christ, who will rule the nations in His reign of peace on earth.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
These are signs of the Last Days revealing its time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles (Matthew 16:19) who were authorized described how (Acts 2). Which brings peace and joy in the Holy Spirit in this life and eternal life in the world to come.
