Reuters quoted the source as saying that the US High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) have been deployed at the U.S. base in Syria located close to the borders with Iraq and Jordan.
The missile system’s deployment at al-Tanf will give U.S. forces the ability to strike targets within its 300-kilometer range. Recently, U.S. warplanes defended this area when encroached on by the Syrians & Iranians with their allies.
Tanf is near a Syria-Iraq border crossing on the main Baghdad-Damascus highway which rebels took from Islamic State. This stopped Iran from using it to send arms to the Syrian government positions.
This is why Iran with its militia allies have been probing and testing the Americans willingness to defend and hold the area.
