Walmart said it has pulled guns and ammunition from the sales floors of its U.S. stores as it seeks to keep firearms from being stolen should social unrest erupt.

A Walmart spokesperson said “We have seen some isolated civil unrest, and as we have done on several occasions over the last few years, we have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates and customers.”

The company in June removed firearms and ammunition from stores after George Floyd’s killing by police when several of its stores were damaged.

They also said guns and ammo do remain available for purchase by customers on request. And Walmart as the nation’s biggest retailer remains a major seller of guns and ammunition, although it has scaled back, selling firearms in roughly half of its 4,700 U.S. stores.

Walmart has resisted pressure to take the company out of the gun business altogether, saying that its remaining assortment of firearms will focus on hunting and sport shooting.

Consumer demand for firearms has jumped this year. The National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry trade group, estimates there were a record 12.1 million background checks for gun purchases from January through July, up nearly 72% from 7.1 million gun checks in the year-ago period.

And forty percent of firearms sales involved purchasers who’d never owned a gun, according to a NSSF survey of firearm retailers. It concluded that almost 5 million Americans bought a gun for the first time in 2020.

The Biblical Prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21) foretell that in the Last Days there will be an environment of offenses and hatred, with violence as it was in the days of Noah, which will be signs indicating the nearing end of this age of grace.
