In our location on the Gulf Coast, we just experienced going through a “Texas Stormageddon.”
Where the unusual rare winter storm, all the way down through Texas to the US southern coastline at Gulf of Mexico, took away all our modern conveniences and reduced us to trying for basics of warmth, water, and food. But with little success.
Literally, with no power and heat for days in extreme low temperatures, people were just battling to survive the storm. Some unfortunately did not.
It started in the early morning hours of this Monday before daylight.
In the blackness of the night, as the wind howled around the house, the wintry mix of sleet and snow began to pelt our roof and windows with intensity.
As we also listened to the loud crack of thundersnow for the first time in our living memory on the Gulf Coast near Galveston, Texas.
After daylight, we arose to see the whiteness of the hard mix of sleet and snow covering our landscape. It even covered the beaches at the Gulf on Galveston Island. And we like millions of other Texans that Monday turned up the heat on our thermostats to stay warm.
But by that extremely cold afternoon, the power demand was just too much on the independent stand-alone Texas power grid. And the rolling black-outs began.
The power failure hit us in the late afternoon, just when the temperatures really started to plummet even more.
The storm set all kinds of records across Texas, with low teens in some places and single digits in others along with zero or below wind chill almost everywhere.
For an area on the Gulf Coast that has temperatures which go up to the 60’s & 70’s in winter’s February, it was an apocalyptic shock.
It was also a shock to the power grid as well. The power did not come back. So slowly through Monday night and into Tuesday the temperature inside people’s homes worked its way down to freezing.
We were one of the fortunate ones since we also had natural gas in our home. Yet we can honestly say that even with both the gas fireplace and stove going strong, and us in multiple layers of clothing and under several thick blankets, it was still very stressful from the extreme cold.
For others they were not as fortunate. It was reported in the Galveston County Daily News that the coroner was struggling to find room. For the at least 20+ bodies of people who had died over the two days during the brutally cold weather and lingering power outage. They ordered a storage truck to come in for the overflow.
We are just not use to such a historic nightmare storm happening here. And that’s why the power grid failed with people literally freezing to death.
In this unprecedented storm, all 254 Texas counties were placed under winter weather advisory warning—which is very rare. Typically, if a cold front hits one area of Texas, then power production elsewhere in the state covers for it.
But that wasn’t possible this time around under the massive storm, as the Texas power grid, which is an island unto itself, had no place to turn that wasn’t already under max load. So then came the blackouts. And icy roads meant equipment couldn’t be serviced.
Bottom line, Texas had never expected a winter storm like this that covered the entire state at once. But in these prophetic times, unexpected and never before seen things are continuing to happen.
Our power came back on Wednesday evening, and today on Thursday, thankfully our home is warm again.
But from the unusual severe stress of the cold we just went through, our bodies still feel a bit sick. And our hearts are sick over those who suffered and died in our county during this storm.
The Governor is promising an investigation of what happened so to better prepare for the future.
And the Biblical prophecies foretell that there will be extreme weather in the Last Days (Luke 21, Revelation 8, Revelation 11, Revelation 16) as the earth’s weather will continue to intensify—signaling we are in the Last Days nearing the end of this age.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
The prophecy has come true, the perilous times are here. The need is greater than ever before.
