An epic mega-drought has emerged in the western U.S. that scientists say is as bad or worse than any in the past 1,200 years.
And as severe heat with record temperatures are projected to keep rising, it is likely the drought will continue for the future – or fade briefly only to return, according to researchers.
Scientists also said the nearly two decades between 2000 and 2018 in the southwestern United States was the driest such span since the late 1500s.
They say now 26 percent of the western US is in exceptional drought status – the highest level of dryness – while 96 percent of the west is suffering from at least some level of drought.
And prior to this we have never seen more than 12 percent of the west in exceptional drought at any point in the past two decades of record-keeping.
It’s getting a lot worse, quickly. And water in the region is disappearing.
The flow of the Colorado River into Lake Powell is currently less than 25 percent of normal. And Lake Powell is within just a few feet of its lowest level ever observed since it was first filled.
And California’s reservoirs are 50 percent lower than they should be at this time of year.
It was also a severe drought in the US that caused the 1930s Dust Bowl that forced migrations of people from the land of the Plains to across the US.
The problem now is that the western USA is home to more than 70 million people who weren’t there for any previous droughts where the implications are far more daunting.
A University of Michigan scientist who studies southwestern climate calls this current drought “the first observed multidecade megadrought in recorded U.S. history.”
The Biblical prophecies (Revelation 16) foretell in the future how the earth will become so hot from the sun that it will scorch humanity, as record heatwaves are now signaling we are nearing the end of this age and the coming of Jesus Christ.
These events and conditions happening now are warning signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare now for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
