A 4.7-magnitude earthquake has struck Nevada in the latest of a series of dozens of earthquakes in the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

This current 4.7-m tremor was 3.2 miles deep with the quake hitting about 16 miles from the small town of Mina, Nevada, and was less than 115 miles from South Lake Tahoe, California.

Shaking from the earthquake could also be felt in the Sierra National Forest and in Pine Grove, California, according to USGS.

A swarm of at least 40 earthquakes have jolted this region recently near the California-Nevada border.

According to the USGS, the biggest quake so far was at a 5.1 magnitude and a depth of around 3.1 miles. It happened around 15 miles south of Mina, Nevada.

Also among the approximate 40 earthquakes in the same region there was included two with a 4.3 magnitude and others in the 2-3 magnitude range.

Some think the swarm may be a series of aftershocks related to the 6.5 magnitude Monte Cristo earthquake on May 15th this year when Nevada had its biggest earthquake in 66 years that rattled 225 miles from Las Vegas.
