Multiple reports are saying that U.S. forces killed scores of Russian mercenaries in Syria last week in what may be the deadliest clash between citizens of the former foes since the Cold War, according to a U.S. official and Russians familiar with the matter.
The U.S. military had struck pro-regime forces in Syria near the Euphrates River with airstrikes, artillery, tanks, and rocket fire in response to forces allied with Assad making an “unprovoked attack” on the Kurdish SDF headquarters where U.S. coalition forces are also located and adjacent to important oil and gas fields.
Reports say the Syrian pro-regime forces launched the coordinated attack that included about 500 regime troops, 122mm howitzers, tanks, and multiple launch rocket systems on the US-backed SDF headquarters in Deir al-Zor province approximately five miles east of the Euphrates River.
One report said more than 200 contract soldiers, mostly Russians fighting on behalf of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, had died in the failed attack on the base held by U.S. and mainly Kurdish forces in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor region.
Russia’s military officially said it had nothing to do with the attack saying the Kremlin only tracks data on the country’s official armed forces and the U.S. accepted the claim.
But the Russians involved were reportedly said to be from “Wagner” — a shadowy organization known as Russia’s answer to Blackwater — that was hired by Assad or his allies to gain control and guard Syrian energy assets in exchange for oil concessions.
Sources in Russia were quoted as saying most of those killed and injured were Russian and Ukrainian, many of them veterans of the separatist conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Researchers reportedly identified through social media postings, some of the Russian casualties in the action who had joined the Wagner Group, the Russian private paramilitary company, and traveled to fight in Syria. However, Russia officially distances itself from the presence of its private military contractors in Syria.
But Russia and Syria say the U.S. is illegally in Syria and want all American forces out of the country.
And Russia’s allies of Syria & Iran are pushing the boundaries of the Syrian conflict progressively trying to force Russia out into an open position facing off with the U.S. and its allies.
And we are seeing a definite increase in the scope of military action engaged in within Syria against all parties. And we can expect more and more friction and incidents between the volatile mix of the myriad countries and militias in action in Syria.
For this is the specific area along the Euphrates River which is prophesied in the Book of Revelation as the place where demonic turmoil is unleashed.
And the prophecy foretells it will grow into a war that engulfs the world with devastating results where an army of two hundred million soldiers are put into the field and a third of mankind is killed.
The signs of this Last Day prophecy in Revelation 9 for this final world war are steadily increasing.
Showing all, the validity of the Holy Scriptures, and warning those who have an ear to hear the Word of God to respond by preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ while there’s time.
