Americans Say Worse Off Now Than 50 Years Ago

Signs of the Last Days® MinistryNews

What a difference 50 years makes. The majority of Americans say in a survey that things are worse off now than 50 years ago. What happened?

The Pew Research Center, a nonprofit think tank in Washington, D.C., asked nearly 43,000 people in 38 countries around the globe the question, if life was better or worse today than it was 50 years ago.

And the U.S. was among the countries in which people said they were actually worse off now than half a century ago. The U.S. was grouped with countries like Senegal, followed by Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Venezuela, which has suffered from political unrest and economic turbulence in recent years.

Also in the U.S., the rich appear to be leaving the middle class behind. The American middle class made up just 26% of incomes in 2014, down from 46% in 1979, adjusted for inflation, according to a separate report released by the Urban Institute, a nonprofit and nonpartisan policy group.

What happened to the blessings on the land of opportunity?
