The Mid-East conflict between the nations of the United States and Iran has been called a “proxy war” and a “shadow war” but call it what you will, it is still war — and it just got worse, much worse.
As the U.S. has just killed an official leader of another nation state. That is an act of war.
When the U.S. killed Qasem Soleimani, military commander of Iran’s elite Quds Force, in a high-profile drone strike outside the Baghdad airport in Iraq, they killed who was actually the #2 leader in Iran.
Soleimani was a military official who reported to no one else other than the Grand Ayatollah of Iran.
He was adored by millions in Iran and in many militias across the Middle East, and was deferred to at all levels of Iranian government. No one was more powerful in Iran than him, except for the Ayatollah.
This decapitation strike against Iran by the U.S. was a severe geopolitical seismic event in the Mediterranean Region.
To put the U.S. targeted killing of Soleimani into perspective, it is being said that this is the equivalent of Iran killing the U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and then taking credit for it.
For Soleimani was responsible for all intelligence and military activities external to the national boundaries of Iran.
Some security experts are saying this killing is the most significant in U.S. history with it eclipsing the deaths of Osama bin Laden or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
And in terms of strategic significance and implications, experts are saying the geopolitical ramifications are beyond knowing or estimating.
When U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper spoke only 24 hours before the strike on Soleimani saying that “the game has changed” his speech foreshadowed what was to come.
For the attack on Iran’s leader was a game changer in the Middle East. The war that had been in the shadows is now brought out in the wide open light of day.
And there will now be dramatic escalations between the US and Iran in the near future as Iran will surely take the severe revenge they have promised, with the questions being when and where it will happen, and how bad will it be.
The US Administration is fully expecting it to happen.
As the Pentagon announced the deployment of another 3,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division to Kuwait, as an “Immediate Response Force” that joins the 15,000 American troops sent to the Middle East since the tensions with Iran began to escalate.
The world is waiting to see what Iran will do. They have plenty of options and the timing is theirs to choose.
As their Islamic Revolutionary Guard Quds Force and its loyal militias are spread out across the Mid-East. Iran has developed a military network of militia’s throughout the Middle East that includes the PMF militias in Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria, Hamas in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the Houthis in Yemen.
And the entire Mid-East is a target-rich environment for the Persians.
Oil and gas facilities proliferate in the land and its waterways. There is also the commercial shipping through the choke-point of the Strait of Hormuz at the coastline of Iran. And US allies along with US bases, ships, and planes abound there with US soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines at risk.
A strong guess is that Iran will continue to follow Soleimani’s lead as Quds commander in using proxy militia forces to launch attacks against the U.S. and its allies.
But after Soleimani’s killing, they will want bigger targets with larger numbers of casualties. Like when the Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon attacked the U.S. Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983 with a suicide bomber killing hundreds of Americans.
And if America begins to press in on the Iranians with stronger further retribution against Iranian attacks to come, Iran will no doubt turn to the Russians who is their ally and rear guard in the Middle East.
After such a daring killing by the US, no doubt any opportunity of deescalation is past. And the expectation for escalation of greater war violence is set.
Also, alliances in the Mid-East will form up and harden, made up of allies that are really ready and willing to shoot and die for one another. It’s interesting that the only country in the world that has come out in support of the US after the attack on Soleimani is Israel. There was no one else, not even any former NATO allies from World War 2.
People are talking about World War 3 starting now, as it was a major topic trending on social media after the US strike. Not quite yet, but regional tensions and conflict in the Mid-East have just significantly elevated.
It only took 2 days into the New Year of 2020 for it to become prophetic. And no doubt the decade of the 2020’s will now be filled with consequences that lead to prophecy fulfillment.
As the Biblical Prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21) are coming true as nation is rising against nation and there are wars and rumors of wars. And there are Biblical alliances (Ezekiel 38) forming now on the ground in the Mid-East foretold in Last Days prophecies.
These events and conditions happening now are signs pointing to the nearing fulfillment of the Last Days prophecies at the end of this age revealing it’s time to prepare for the nearing appearance of Jesus Christ for His Church by being born again spiritually into the Kingdom of God as Jesus said we must (John 3) and His Apostles who were authorized (Matthew 16:19) described how (Acts 2).
Preparing those Biblically born again into the Kingdom of God to be ready to escape all the things that will come to pass, in the wrath of the tribulation of Revelation prophecy, that comes upon the world of disobedience. As the born again Church is not appointed unto wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10) but instead to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
