U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has warned after a trip to the Middle East that Israel is preparing for war.
Senator Graham said Iran is testing President Trump and warned Israel was preparing to start a war in southern Lebanon over an Iranian-backed Hezbollah rocket factory.
He also told reporters that Israeli officials made it clear to visiting lawmakers that they would have to act to target Hezbollah over the guided-rocket factory, since they are making rockets that can hit Israel’s airport and do a lot of damage to the state of Israel.
Graham blamed a lack of a strategy to counter Iran in the region, including in Syria, for the rocket factory. Trump has vowed to counter Iran’s influence in the Middle East, accusing its leaders of fomenting terrorism.
Countering Iran is not one of the coalition missions in Syria, but General Joseph Votel, the head of U.S. Central Command, also said that “while we continue to confront the scourge of terrorism, Iran’s malign activities across the region pose a long-term threat to stability in this part of the world.”
