A new wildfire broke out in San Diego County as Southern California firefighters continued to fight several out-of-control infernos burning through parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Officials issued a new round of evacuations for residents in a number of areas in San Diego and warned that they may order even more. Mandatory evacuation orders now affect 200,000 people, and authorities on Wednesday closed the 405 Freeway, causing gridlock throughout the area.
A fire official said there is no ability to fight fire in the kind of winds they are having, and that everyone must pay attention minute-by-minute while keeping their heads on a swivel.
The Governor has declared a state of emergency freeing up state funds to help firefighters battling the blazes.
