A powerful magnitude 7.1 earthquake has shaken Peru with it hitting off the coast and rocking a string of towns.
It toppled homes and crumbled roads making hundreds homeless and wounding scores with one death reported so far.
The epicenter was about 25 miles southwest of Acarí, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
Homes collapsed and power was lost in the cities of Acarí, Jaquí, Tanaca Yauza, Salamanca and Condesuyos and others.
The earthquake came four days before the Roman Pope Francis arrives in Peru for a four-day visit.
