Russian has warned that an “apocalyptic scenario” is possible on the Korean peninsula and called for a “common sense” approach to end the standoff over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.
Russian news agency Tass reported that Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said “A scenario of the apocalyptic development of the situation on the Korean Peninsula exists and we cannot turn our blind eye to it.”
He said Moscow is cooperating in a global effort to convince the rogue regime of President Kim Jong Un to curb his nuclear ambitions. “We have told North Korea many times that for us [its] nuclear status is unacceptable,” the diplomat said. “We continue this work with the North Korean counterparts presenting to them our position.”
However, North Korea has said it is committed to the goals of its nuclear program and demonstrated this again by recently launching an ICBM missile that can reach anywhere in America. They also said the last launch demonstrated their ability for a warhead to survive re-entry.
As North Korea and President Trump keep trading threats and North Korea continues making quick progress to a nuclear ICBM that can reach America, the potential for conflict in 2018 looks increasingly possible.
