Strange and unusual lightning storms in southern California became so intense that an airliner was struck in the air and forced to return to the airport, and then the airport itself was taken out by the unusual event.
It sounds like a thriller Hollywood movie, with an airliner struck in the air forced to return to the airport, and then the airport itself also taken out by a strange and unusual event—but it was real in one night in Southern California.
During weird weather with unusual lightning storms in southern California, extreme lightning pulses were so intense that a Delta Air Lines flight leaving Los Angeles International Airport was struck by lightning in the air.
Delta spokesperson Kate Modolo said the plane was able to safely return to LAX and land, and no passengers or staff on board were injured.
But then the airport itself was also taken out by the weird storm as Los Angeles International Airport suffered a power outage due to a lightning strike also, when the plane had to return to LAX after being struck by lightning.
LAX officials said Tom Bradley International Terminal, along with Terminals 5 and 6 were affected by the lightning-induced outage, and that TSA passenger screening and baggage screening required rebooting.
When Delta Flight 2432 attempted to fly out of the airport heading to Seattle and was struck by lightning shortly after taking off, the pilot did not declare an emergency but did request to return to the airport, according to airport officials.
In one five-minute stretch alone, shortly after 8 p.m., the National Weather Service recorded nearly 1,500 pulses of lightning said Kathy Hoxsie, a meteorologist with the weather service in Oxnard. “It’s a lot,” she said. “We usually don’t get that.”
The extreme weather was described as an unusual and strange event during some weird weather as the lightning storms prompted a warning alerting residents to take precautions because of their extreme power.
People were warned to stay indoors and Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials decided to land a department helicopter because of the extreme weather.
The Biblical prophecies (Luke 21, Revelation 16) foretell that earth’s weather cycles will intensify signaling we are nearing the end of this age and the coming of Jesus Christ which a prophecy says will happen just like the lightning flash (Matthew 24).
