Super Bowl organizers are taking extraordinary steps to try and minimize the risk of a potential flu explosion with 1 million football fans attending Super Bowl-related events & at risk of getting this season’s deadly dominant flu strain.
They are disinfecting the massive Super Bowl Experience exhibit at the Minneapolis Convention Center multiple times this week, and urging fans to get their flu shots.
Staff are wiping down all exhibits multiple times a day with sanitizing wipes, and volunteers with the United Way disinfect virtual reality equipment between each use at their Super Bowl Experience booth.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report they expect in this flu season for around an estimated 34 million Americans to get the flu with 710,000 hospitalized and about 56,000 deaths.
Minnesota officials estimate 1 million people will attend Super Bowl-related events in the week leading up to the big game, with 125,000 of them coming from outside the state.
Obviously, the Super Bowl & its events present a potential flash point to exponentially ramp up the current flu epidemic.
