Flu is widespread throughout the nation with this year’s flu season to rank among those most severe as influenza activity is increasing in all 49 continental states.
There were 10 additional flu-related deaths among children during the last reported week, bringing the total for children in the season to 30 deaths.
Overall, hospitalizations increased to 31.5 for every 100,000 people during the week compared with 22.7 per 100,000 for the previous week.
One doctor who has worked in emergency medicine for the last 20 years says this is the worst flu season he’s ever seen.
“This is one of those flu seasons they’re gonna be comparing other flu seasons to,” said Dr. Brahim Ardolic, chairman of emergency medicine at Staten Island University Hospital in New York City.
